Digi Cam Era.

So, this is the blog post content that I had originally scheduled for last week. BUT, sadly the pictures are going to be different than originally planned, because I lost my original work from a freak accident that caused the files to become corrupted and were unable to be opened. To be completely honest, last week’s photos were so much better than what I have for you all today.

What I will be covering in this blog post is portable point and shoot Digital Cameras, or as what Gen Z like to call “Digi Cams”. When talking about these smaller Digital Cameras, I am referring to something that is small in form-factor; usually pocketable, is very straight forward to use; basically a point and shoot, and is generally older from like the early 2000’s; the ones that everybody would bring to the club before having camera phones.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W100

I believe my dad bought this Digital Camera in 2006.

The little daily carry Digital Camera I carry is the Sony Cybershot DSC-W100. I’m not going to get into specifics of the technology or the optics, I’m just going to cover how I use it and share some photos I took with it recently.

I carry this Digital Camera with me daily inside of my work bag, just so I have a camera to capture stuff with. Why not use my phone camera, you ask? It’s because I feel using my phone camera makes me lazy and the camera on the iPhone literally does all the work for you. What I mainly enjoy about this old piece of tech is it is such a simple and straight forward device to use to exercise your brain muscles and keep your photographer vision sharp and primed. Yeah, I still use my phone camera eight out of ten times, just because it is way more readily available, but I am working on trying to use it less.

The irony, I shot this with my phone.

I can totally see the obsession of these types of Cameras with Gen Z, but also they are just so obsessed with anything “Retro” and “Vintage” these days. The results you get are on the more outdated and “Retro” aesthetic. I gravitate towards these Cameras just so I can shoot with something different. I would recommend anyone to grab a decent Point and Shoot Digital Camera just to have some fun with it and tap into your creativity. You can find any of these older Digital Cameras for under $100. By no means do I use this as my main work horse or use any of these photos as portfolio worth photos, it’s just a fun creative toy I bring around.

Below, you can take a look at the end results. The left photo will be the one straight out of the camera, while the photo on the right will be the end result with post production and editing.

Above, you can see that I am able to make colors more vibrant and saturated.

Above, you can see I am able to bring in more color, detail, shadows, and definition.

Above, the details, colors, and lighting is a lot more prominent.

Above, you can see you can lessen the shadows and dark areas to showcase more detail.

Above, you can bring out more color to liven up the mood from being less dull.

I just want to close it off by saying, I hope this makes you want to go find a perfect small “Digi Cam” to go out there and shoot and to stop relying on your phone and I hope this encourages you to pick up a new creative hobby. Lastly, I hope this was entertaining and insightful to everyone!

Til the next one, keep on keeping on!
