Mother Knows best.

So, Mother’s Day was just this past Sunday. When was the last time you took the time to hang out with your Mom? I’ll be real, its been a while. We have both become busy doing our own things. I’d even think that my Mom has more of a social life than I do! She stays busy in her retired life with volunteering and hanging with her friends, which is a great thing.

But, since my girlfriend was busy for Mother’s Day weekend making flower arrangements for her flower business, I was free. I ended up finding out about this pretty cool five block long garage sale that was going on. It’s called the “Fair Oaks Street Fair”. Apparently, this has been a tradition for 45 years. I figured this would be something cool to take my Mom to for us to hang out and go for a walk around the Mission. So, after my mom was done volunteering at the Church, we got ready and hit the town.

We arrived to the City, and the weather was amazing; perfectly sunny for a nice walk. Walking around kinda got me in my feels, because I was noticing that my Mom was walking a lot slower and needed frequent breaks. This was never the case when I was younger, but times have changed and my Mom had definitely aged. But, that didn’t stop her from scouring through piles of random objects and scouring through racks of vintage clothing. She struck some gold in her opinion, whereas I struck out and came empty handed. I was hunting for any cool vintage camera gear, Vintage Bay Area Sports memorabilia, and most importantly some Vintage Levi’s; especially this being in San Francisco.

After spending some time walking up and down the blocks trying to haggle prices even cheaper, we got hungry. I decided to take my Mom to her favorite burrito spot in the city, La Taqueria. This spot holds a special and dear spot in our hearts, because this was my Dad’s favorite burrito spot in the city. Don’t get it twisted, his favorite spot in SOUTH CITY was La Tapatia. For those of you that don’t know, my Dad passed away back in 2010. La Taqueria was the spot that my Dad would take us (my mom, my sister, and myself) on the weekends. The spot hasn’t changed much since then. It was still full of people and the food was just as I remembered. Only thing that was different is the place seemed so much bigger when I was a child, but now as an adult it was actually smaller than I remembered. After we ate, we just headed back home and both had food coma and passed out for Lord knows how long.

Sunday, for actual Mother’s Day, we kept it a little more chill and low key this year. We all went out for Dim Sum, stopped by the cemetery to visit my Dad and Grandparents, and we ended the day watching the Iron Claw; which had us emotionally in shambles. That pretty much sums up my Mother’s Day weekend. I hope you all called your Moms and told them you love and appreciate them! Now, to the photos I took through the weekend. Enjoy.
