T2 x 1amsf Team Building Event.

This past Wednesday I attended a work Team Building event. For those of you that don’t know, I am coordinate and plan events and activities for my workplace. I was pretty stoked about this one, because for this Team Building activity, we took a Graffiti Workshop, which taught us the basics of spray-can control and some basic techniques. I haven’t touched a can of spray paint since I was about fifteen years old, using crappy hardware store paint.

The workshop was held at 1AMSF at Spark Social in San Francisco. 1AMSF is a team of street art muralists in San Francisco, you have probably seen a bunch of their work scattered through out The City. You can check out their work here. Overall, it was a really dope and unique experience. It took a lot of persuasion and finessing to get this event approved by our corporate upper management. I honestly think they were apprehensive about it, because graffiti is still considered as a form of “vandalism”.

The workshop is normally and hour and a half, but since we paid to add-on a large take away canvas to paint, the workshop is extended to two hours. At the beginning of the workshop, they have a quick ten minute crash course on basic can control and technique. Then they let everyone practice all over the walls. Half way through the allotted time, they let everyone have a chance to paint their own canvas tote bag with any of the pre-cut stencils. For the last portion of the workshop, the 1AMSF team consulted with us to figure out our large mural on the take away canvas. Once we agreed on a color scheme and style of art, the 1AMSF team painted an outline and set it up to be filled in “Paint in Numbers” style. So everyone collaborated with painting and filling in the outline. Once we completed filling it in, 1AMSF takes over and puts all the finishing touches like the shadows and highlights.

I would highly recommend giving this workshop a try whether if its for your work’s team building or even with a group of friends. It is a really unique and creative experience. Check out the rest of the photos I took from the workshop. ‘Til the next one, enjoy.
